Acolytes and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. These ministries are a means for men to offer service at Mass both at the altar and in the distribution of Holy Communion. In order to become an acolyte, one must attend preparatory classes. Acolytes are installed at a special Mass celebrated by the Bishop in the spring. Once an acolyte is installed, he is encouraged to serve as an EMHC. EMHC’s bring communion to homebound and institution-bound parishioners on Sundays.
